Zafferano: A Feast for the Senses

Jun 25 2019 - Blog

Whether you are looking for a fancy date night with enchanting views, a luxurious place to unwind after work, or craving comfort for the Italian soul in you, Zafferano comes highly recommended. Hidden among the bustling Central Business District lies this authentic Italian gem, perched beautifully on the 43rd floor of Ocean Financial Centre, offering a ravishing skyline view of the city and Marina Bay Sands.

Inspired by one of the most exquisite Italian spices in the world, Zafferano is the Italian translation of “saffron” — an ingredient that sets any Italian cooking apart. The restaurant aims to match the stellar reputation of its namesake by being the best Italian restaurant in the city. This branding also explains the red-coloured details used in most of its interior design, accentuated by the elegant saffron-themed lighting ornament that dominates the ceiling above the circular bar.

Experience what it is like to treat your senses to a luxurious feast, starting from the entryway where guests are greeted by a wall of enclosed wine cellars. This is followed by two glass-clad kitchens – creating the image of a culinary theatre surrounded by red marble walls in the open kitchen. The custom-made Italian-inspired furniture seats groups of family and friends comfortably. Expect to dine in a warm romantic ambience perfectly set for an evening for two or for an intimate meal with your loved ones.

When notable occasions call for a little privacy, Zafferano offers two private dining and wine rooms designed for 12 to 22 guests. You can even customise your own menu to suit the occasion and delight your guests’ taste buds!

A memorable dining experience goes beyond great ambience, so let’s get to our dinner tasting of this season’s menu!

No Italian feast is complete without antipasti, a traditional starter course to awaken your taste buds.

Antipasti: Gamberi – Ricotta – Origano – Pomodoro – Salsa Cocktail

A treasure of the Italian sea, red prawns from Mazara are a succulent delicacy best savoured raw. We tried one of Zafferano’s signature gamberi cold dish and got swept away by the natural sweetness of the red prawns. You could taste the juicy freshness of the prawns, accented by cocktail sauce espuma. If you are not a fan of raw food, we suggest a generous dip of the sauce!

Antipasti: Manzo – Rucola – Parmigiano Reggiano

Another classic Italian appetiser that brings sophistication to the table, manzo means “beef” in Italian. It’s an interesting dish consisting of tender paper-thin sliced raw beef that shows off the chef’s knife skills, paired with Italian wild rocket sponge and Parmesan cheese. Seasoned lightly, the beef goes easy on the taste buds, making it a pleasing raw dish.

Primi: Ravioli – Burrata – Pomodoro – Basilico (V)

If you can’t make a trip to Italy yet, the primi served at Zafferano runs a close second as one of the most authentic handcrafted Italian pastas. If you are a pasta lover like us, nothing compares to the taste and texture of house-made pasta. We were told all of Zafferano’s pasta are made in-house and we couldn’t have been more excited to try it! One mouth was enough to make us fall in love with this delightful staple.

The texture of the dough was smooth and kneaded at just the right thickness, enveloping delicious stuffed Stracciatella cheese. A well-balanced amount of cheese sauce topped with tomato coulis makes the ravioli savoury yet not too overwhelming. This dish is guaranteed to have you going home with a satisfied palate and coming back for more!

Primi: Linguine – Astice – Pomodoro

For a second primi to make the most out of your dinner menu, consider one of their boss’ personal in-house favourite linguine. The tenderness of the thick Canadian lobster marries the classic tomato sauced linguine with pomodoro, a smooth combination of sweet ripe tomatoes and lobster juiciness. You won’t be disappointed with this all-time-favourite lobster pasta dish that everyone can agree on.

Secondi: Manzo – Verdure di Stagione

Italian meals are a multi-course affair, so your dining experience does not simply end with pasta. Succulent and tender, this hearty slow-cooked beef short rib is sure to make its way to any meat lover’s heart. A thick and rich sauce glazes over the ribs and well-sautéed seasonal vegetables, giving it another dimension of flavour. What really surprised us was how we found the fatter cut of the rib to be sweet and juicy (we usually prefer to trim this part away). We really wish you could smell its aroma over the photos!

P.S. Meat enthusiasts can look forward to Zafferano’s plans of beefing up their grill section by introducing a variety of meat dishes!

Secondi: Merluzzo – Asparagi Verdi – Patate

Enjoy this proud signature of theirs and have the white flesh of luscious oven-baked black cod melt in your mouth. The distinctive cooking method of this merluzzo showcases its flavour to perfection, delivering layered experiences with its crispy skin yet soft inside. Served with roasted potatoes that are slightly burnt and crisp on the side, this is truly one satisfying last dish before dessert.

Dessert: Azoto Sorbetti

Refreshing treats are just what you need to wrap up a good evening. For those of you who have never seen fresh sorbet being made by your tableside, prepare yourself for a visual feast! We went for liquid nitrogen strawberry and all we could say was “wow” at this enchanting taste of heaven that melts in your mouth almost instantly. Here’s a tip: You might want to spend less time Instagramming your sorbet before it melts.

Feeling a little stuffy? Head out to their Terrace Lounge for some fresh air and panoramic city view that casts all worries away. Mingle with friends over drinks from Zafferano’s dedicated bar. Join them in their very own ladies’ night every Thursday for a promising fun night out with your girlfriends! While the week is ending, you definitely deserve a break so pop up from your chair and dance along as their resident DJ spins retro hits.

Refined with romantic and sophisticated Italian touches, Zafferano sets an incredible impression to any guest who steps within. With creations made with fresh ingredients imported from all around European countries, indulge in authentic Italian signatures when you dine in with them. The pinnacle of Italian hospitality offers a memorable venue perfect for great people to get together over good food and wine. The restaurant believes in offering the value of three threads: Food, service and ambience. If you have something to share, feel free to chat with their team because in their dictionary, feedback is never negative but an opportunity to become better than they are today. Buon appetito!
