Celebrate Chinese New Year at these 6 Chinese Restaurants

Chinese New Year is just 2 weeks away! It’s the time for feasting, feasting, and more feasting – made even better in the company of your loved ones. Preparing for an extravagant Chinese New Year meal at home can be a little taxing; if you wish to save yourself the hassle, why not treat yourself and your family to a wonderful meal at a restaurant?

Here are some top picks:

1. Jiang-Nan Chun

Indulge your senses at Jiang-Nan Chun, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Four Seasons Hotel Singapore. From 11th January to 26th February, take your pick from a variety of special auspicious menus curated by Executive Chinese Chef Albert Au, which revolve around fresh seasonal produce. Dig into premium dishes like Suckling Pig with Avruga Caviar, and Braised Ee-Fu Noodles with Boston Lobster in Superior Stock.

Which Chinese New Year Meal is complete without a Prosperity Toss? Go all out with Jiang-Nan Chun’s Abundance Lobster, Abalone, and Salmon Yu Sheng. The Lunar Celebration Eight-Course Set Menu is going for $1358 for 8 pax; the Six-Course Set Menu is priced at $168 per pax; and the Six-Course Vegetarian Celebration Menu is available at $128 per pax.

For those that wish to do away with the cooking, but still dine in the comfort of their own homes, the Lunar New Year Takeaway option is up for grabs from 18th January to 9th February 2021. Choose from favourites such as the Golden Kumquat Tart, Pen Cai, Yu Sheng, as well as hampers for some festive gifting.

2. Shang Palace

Immerse yourself in all things Chinese at Shang Palace, which offers tantalising set menus or ala carte dishes – specially curated by Executive Chinese Chef Mok Kit Keung.

Available from 25th January to 26th February, the Chinese New Year Set Menus are going from S$168++ per person. Be spoilt for choice with six different set menus, each going by the names of ‘Happiness’, ‘Prosperity’, ‘Harmonious’, ‘Opulence’, ‘Abundance’, and ‘Joyous’ Set Menus. Expect dishes such as the Fortune Yu Sheng with Norwegian Smoked Salmon, Braised Bird’s Nest Soup with Conpoy, Fish Maw and Bamboo Fungus, Wok-fried King Prawn and Seasonal Vegetable with Hawthorn Sauce, Sautéed Boston Lobster with Lemongrass and Garlic, and more – depending on which set menu you fancy.

Otherwise, if you prefer to choose your own meal, Shang Palace is offering a wide array of specialty dishes from $22++. Have the Fortune Yu Sheng with Poached Lobster, Norwegian Smoked Salmon, Vegetarian Fish, or even sliced Wagyu Beef Tenderloin. There are also dishes like Barbecued Pork Loin Glazed with Honey Sauce, Braised 3-Heads Abalone, and more.

3. Grand Shanghai Restaurant

Be transported to Shanghai’s golden age of the 1930’s at the Grand Shanghai Restaurant, which is set in a lavish ‘East Meets West’ atmosphere. Treat your senses to a display of fine cuisine, starting with the Grand Shanghai Treasure Set, going from $388. Specially put together for this year’s festive season, the set contains items such as a Prosperity Yu Sheng, Braised 3-Head Abalone with Dried Oyster and Black Moss, and Grand Shanghai Signature Crispy Smoked Duck, among others. This set can be enjoyed either in the restaurant or back at home – it’s entirely up to you!

The Grand Shanghai Restaurant’s Prosperity Yusheng features both fish sashimi and 10-Head abalone – gracing the indulgent platter with flourishing wealth to come. There are also plenty of set menus going from $588++ for four pax – there’s something for everyone!

4. Hua Ting Restaurant

Helmed by Hong Kong Masterchef Lap Fai, Hua Ting Restaurant is one of Singapore’s top Cantonese establishments. Marrying tradition and innovation, Hua Ting Restaurant churns out dishes that taste every bit as good as they look. Their special Lunar New Year Set Menu is available from now to 26th February, from $108++ per person for a seven-course meal. This includes dishes such as Stewed Bird’s Nest with Shredded Fish Maw and Fungus, Braised South American Sea Cucumber with Dried Oyster and Seasonal Greens, as well as Pan-fried Green Wrasse Fillet with Supreme Soya Sauce.

If you’re looking for the feast of a lifetime, they also have a nine-course dinner going for $2888++ for 8 persons. This set boasts dishes that include Baked Boston Lobsters, Crispy Suckling Pig, Steamed Sultan Fish, Pan-fried Diced Wagyu Beef, and much more!

A Wealth and Prosperity Takeaway Set Menu is also available, comprising items like a Fresh Hamachi Yusheng, and Hua Ting Deluxe Pen Cai. For those that aren’t a fan of set menus, they have a whole variety of ala carte dishes up for grabs as well.

5. Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant

To ensure that everyone can enjoy their food, Si Chuan Dou Hua has opened up two seatings during lunch and dinner – with an added 15% savings bonus for the first seating for lunch (11am to 12.30pm), as well as for the second seating for dinner (8.30pm to 10.30pm).

From 11th January to 26th February, Si Chuan Dou Hua invites all diners to start the niu year on the right foot with their specially curated set menus, which are going from $88 per person. For something a little more unique, kick off your celebrations with their Prosperity Pufferfish Yusheng with Bittergourd and Fresh Greens. Yes, you read that right – Si Chuan Dou Hua is the only Chinese restaurant in Singapore to incorporate pufferfish (also known as fugu) into their Yusheng! Another unique Yusheng to look out for is their Prosperity Beef Tongue Yusheng, which looks as pretty as a picture.

Marrying both taste and aesthetics, Si Chuan Dou Hua’s set menus are not to be missed. Choose from eight different set menus, inclusive of a vegetarian option. These are priced from $88 per person, boasting dishes such as Double-boiled Fish Maw Soup with Bolete Mushroom and Sea Whelk, Baked Lobster with Rice Bubble in Brown Sauce, Lobster with Vermicelli in Preserved Chilli Broth, and more.

6. The Orchard Cafe

Located at Orchard Hotel Singapore, The Orchard Cafe presents a slightly more casual setting for those who wish to kick back and relax. Loosen your belts and get ready for their Bountiful Buffets, which come complete with dynamic “live” stations for an added dose of theatrics.
