A Michelin-starred Pairing: Nonya Kueh with Wine & Sake

Growing up in a melting pot of heritage, cultures and traditions, Peranakan food shouldn’t come off as something new for Singaporeans. But pairing the classic Nonya Kueh with wine? Well that’s something new that’s not to be missed!

Last November, Sky Premium collaborated with Candlenut – the world’s first Michelin-starred Peranakan restaurant – to put together a webinar. Guests were introduced to a sensational wine and dine experience, complete with authentic Peranakan savouries, as well as handpicked wines and sake.

The specially curated menu featured a line-up of Nonya specialties – Kueh Kosui, Kueh Salat, Kueh Bingkah, and Buah Keluak Tart – made by Candlenut with a modern twist.

These were exquisitely paired with the exceptional tasting notes of Grace Gris de Koshu 2019, an award-winning white wine; Grace Kayagatake Rouge 2017, a refreshing and rich red wine; and Hitotoki Junmai, a pleasant sparkling rose sake.

It was our honour to have the pairing session led by Joshua Kalinan, Master Sake Sommelier and Certified Wine Educator, who was also crowned the 2018 Sake Sommelier of the Year.
